See you later, Wilma...

Wilma is moving off the coast, hopefully fast enough so we don't catch the back end of the storm. We lost power for a couple of hours, and had a minor leak near the front door, probably left over from last year's storms.

The family web site is updated, has some pics from Maddie's pre-show pizza party. She was crew on the high school's play of Cheaper By The Dozen.

Moved out and Moved In...

Mom and Dad left about 10 days ago, and are now moved in to their new house in the Villages. They are still working on a few things with the builder, but we think the house looks great, and fits them very well.

They'll be unpacking for about a year, if form holds. They are missing what every good Villager has, a golf cart, but I'm sure they'll get one soon enough.

See some more pics at the family web site. Below is one of the dogs and their favorite spot in the house. They are keeping a strict watch on the neighborhood.

July Update

Been a lot going on, haven't had time to update. Tati is going to Colombia in a few weeks to visit family, Erin is getting ready for college, and Maddie and Caroline just started school. Maddie was selected as one of her school's first Drum Majors (Hagerty High School is brand new with just a freshman class, Maddie will be a "senior" for all 4 years). Caroline is finishing Middle School at a new facility, so everyone is going someplace new this year.

There are new pictures up at our web site, in the July folder, please stop by and have a look.

Brian taking a swing at Disney Posted by Picasa

Happy Fourth of July...

Time to post again, been pretty busy. The house is being repainted, on the outside, and its been about 2 weeks to finish, as the rains keep coming every day.

Linda and the triplets are in town for Brian's baseball tournament out at Disney. We all went to see his first game, which they lost to a team from Ohio, I think the score was 8-1. Nancy went yesterday to watch them, and they won their second game 11-7. There are some pictures located at the home page.

Enough with the rain..

It's been raining for at least a week now, getting on our nerves. We had some new drainage installed on both sides of the home, hopefully will help if we get another set of hurricanes this year. Plus, we went out and bought a portable generator and a window air conditioner, just in case we lose power.

Of course, now that we are fully prepared, and have dropped a couple K on these projects, no hurricanes will come. That's fine with us....

Happy birthday to Tati - she's 22 today.....

The Bird is Gone...

We answered about 10 calls about the lost bird, and even though none of the people could correctly identify the cockatiel, we turned her over to a woman who has 7 birds, and who had lost one in November. She seemed excited to get Josie, and we felt the bird would be better off with company.

Everything else is going good. Mom and Dad said they are close to buying a house in the Villages, Lisa and Mike are visiting, and Erin had a good time at her prom (pictures can be seen at OUR WEB SITE).

Till later......

Look - up in the sky!!!

Nancy and I visited our rental property yesterday to do some touch up projects before the next renters arrived. Moved a lot of landscaping rock, did some caulking, and headed home.

When we got home, we started unloading the car. I was removing items from the back seat when I heard Nancy yelling out in the driveway. I came out of the car to see her waving her arms around her head, and a bird that looked like it was attacking her.

As the bird squawked and circled around her head, I saw that it was a cockatiel. I told her to just hold her arms out, and sure enough, the bird landed on her arm and walked up her shoulder. Nancy was still uncomfortable, so I walked over and the bird jumped to my shoulder. We've got in now in an old dog cage, and are posting lost and found notices around the neighborhood.

The girls want to keep the bird, and from the picture below, you can see how comfortable the bird is with people. I read the paper on the lanai this morning, with the bird satisfied to perch on my shoulder and nuzzle against my cheek and ear.

If someone doesn't come forward, we'll have a new addition.

Jeep Show & Shine

Maddie and I went to the Orlando Jeep Club's annual Show & Shine last Saturday. Last year, my Jeep was stock, and I was a little embarrassed to have it in the same lineup as some other modified Jeeps. Over the past year I've added:

2 inch suspension lift

1 inch body lift

31 inch All-Terrain tires

Front sway bar quick disconnects

High performance Air Filter

Heavy duty front bumper

Heavy duty rear bumper with receiver hitch

Heavy duty side bumpers with steps

Front radiator protection screen

Bug shield

Even with all the additions, the Jeep still seems to pale compared to some of the ones at the meet, but they are extremes. To see some examples, check out the photos on our home page. The picture below is of me and the Jeep taking a turn on the articulation ramp. You drive up the ramp until one of the remaining three tires comes up off the ground, and are measured to determine how successful your modifications are. Also tried the balance beam, but didn't get a picture because Maddie was in the Jeep with me, acting as a movable weight while we tried to balance.

Good day at work

We had our monthly Board of Trustees meeting today, at our educational facility located at Kennedy Space Center. We had a "behind the scenes" VIP tour, which included the Orbital Processing Facility 3, where the shuttle Discovery is undergoing preparation for the May flight. We spent the majority of the time walking underneath the shuttle (it was supported by multiple jack stands). I got an up-close look at all the tiles that cover the bottom of the shuttle. We then moved up the catwalk (4 stories) and looked down into the open bay where technicians and engineers were working on the air-lock. Then walked back on the catwalk to the shuttle engine area, saw the main engine, major thrusters, and 44 positional thrusters.

Our college's facility is within a couple miles of the launch and assembly buildings, on KSC property. We have a program that trains and certifies technicians, which is very successful.

Having a close look at this facility creates a sense of pride. It showcases America's engineering invention and innovation talents. Though many may think that it is a waste of money, and/or lives, we need to continue to explore space, otherwise we resign ourselves to a meager existence, not knowing what we don't know, nor striving to endeavor.

Maddie participated in the county middle school music competition and came away with 3 superior medals (the highest level awarded). She played in a duet, a trio, and a flute choir. She has collected 6 medals through her 3 years playing the flute - 2 Excellent and 4 Superior, and of course, we are all very proud of her. Posted by Hello

Harriet Wilkes Honors College at FAU

Today we all visited Harriet Wilkes Honors College at FAU. They had set up a program where accepted students for next year, like Erin, could shadow current students to get a feel for the campus. We let Erin loose around 9am, but we seemed to continually bump into her as the day wore on. Sometimes we just snook up on her.

We decided to head for the beach, just 10 minutes away, and were pleasantly surprised. The water looks more like the Carribean than the Atlantic, very nice blue, very clean beaches. Erin is going to be spoiled.

The college is a separate campus, about 40 minutes north of the main Florida Atlantic University, which has over 25,000 students total. Only about 650 attend the Honor's College, and we are very proud of Erin getting accepted. She was offerred scholarship money by the college, and has scored high enough on her SAT/ACT and GPA to get another scholarship through the state.

See more pictures of the campus and the beach on our home site.

Visit to the Villages

We took a trip today up to the Villages, to see how Mom & Dad were doing in our house. Had a good meal at the local Chinese Buffet, where the deserts were pretty good. There are some new pics, you can see more at the photo page dedicated to their visit at our web site.

New Web Host

The Marshall Family Web page is moving. The new host is Netfirms, and it will take a couple of days for the site to register with my current www.timothymarshall.com domain name. If you can't wait, go on over to timothymarshall.netfirms.com

For $60/year, get 500MB storage, 10GB bandwidth transfer/month, plus some other goodies. Lot's more than current provider, and will allow us to host photos in a higher resolution in a more secure environment. Will let everyone know when the old domain name is good again, in 2-3 days.

Mom, Dad and the Dogs visit and a new ebay listing

Mom, Dad and the dogs got in to town on Sunday, and they just left for our rental property up in The Villages. It's the most popular retirement community in the country, hopefully they'll decide to buy a place for themselves and spend more than just a couple of months in Florida. It's always a good time when they visit.

Need a DVI cable? I've got an extra one for sale at ebay. Bid now, bid often...

First published picture using the new camera. May not seem like much here, but the printed product is truly remarkable, with quality resolution up to 20" x 30" picture size. Posted by Hello

After 5 years of using the same great Olympus digital camera, I went out tonight and purchased this Sony. The upgrade takes us from 2.1 MegaPixels to 7.2, plus a few more SLR like features. Look for better pics here and in webshots, once we learn how to use all the features. Posted by Hello

Do you like to read??

Check this out, a web site similar to the money tracking site I mentioned in a previous post.

BookCrossing.com is a web site that provides people with a method for creating book reviews, creating a database of books on their shelves, and a tracking method for releasing books for others to read.

A real novel idea, and fun. Here is my bookshelf.

Enjoy... It's Free....

Holiday Bulletin

Happy Holidays-From The Marshall’s

Well, another year speeds by us all, we are hoping everyone is coping with the holidays and all the chaos that they bring. Our year has been busy, and quick, here is the update:

Tatiana, 21, has graduated from Haverford College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in May of 2004. She has a major in Anthropology and a minor in Women’s Studies. Her goal is to pursue a career in museum studies. As of now she is currently living with two girlfriends in the Boston area. She works as a tutor for elementary children and part-time at Starbucks. She loves the Boston area and being on her own.

Erin, 17, is in her final year of high school. She is carrying a full load of honors and AP courses and is dong very well in her studies. Erin has applied to Florida State University, Florida Atlantic University, and Harriet Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University, hoping to go to the honors college and is anxiously waiting for replies. As of now her career goal is split between medical, education and business , but she has time before she decides. In karate she will be testing for her black belt in the spring. She also is continuing her study of the samurai sword.

Maddie is 13 and in 8th grade. She is doing well in gifted and advance classes. Her current interests are soccer, drawing, and playing the flute in symphonic band at school. Maddie is looking forward to attending high school next year and playing in the high school band. She is also testing for her black belt in the spring.

Caroline is 12 and in the 7th grade. She is also doing well in advance classes at school. Her current interests are volleyball, karate, drawing Japanese anime (cartoons) and language. She is on a recreational volleyball team and loves it. Caroline is teaching herself thru CDs the Japanese language. She is also testing for her black belt is the spring. Even though Caroline is the youngest she is now a ½ inch taller then Nancy.

Tim is now the CIO, Chief Information Officer, at Brevard Community College. He loves his new job and responsibilities but the highlight of his new job is being the head of a TV station. It is a cable station that broadcasts long distance classes and local news and programs. Tim is not traveling around the country anymore and does not miss it. He reached brown belt in karate and sword, but is taking a break at the moment.

Tim and the children keep me busy but I continue to volunteer at school and shuttle the kiddies to their activities. On Wednesday mornings I bowl on a ladies only league. My highest game is a 218! I also enjoy running a book club in our neighborhood and going to Curves three times a week.

Everyone is healthy and happy in our house. We survived the overwhelming and nerve racking hurricane season- thankfully with very little damage. Many of the neighboring communities are still waiting for repairs. We hope next year will be a mild one.

Here’s to hoping everyone will have a healthy and happy New Year.

Love to all

Tim, Nancy, Tatiana, Erin, Maddie, and Caroline
