See you later, Wilma...

Wilma is moving off the coast, hopefully fast enough so we don't catch the back end of the storm. We lost power for a couple of hours, and had a minor leak near the front door, probably left over from last year's storms.

The family web site is updated, has some pics from Maddie's pre-show pizza party. She was crew on the high school's play of Cheaper By The Dozen.

Moved out and Moved In...

Mom and Dad left about 10 days ago, and are now moved in to their new house in the Villages. They are still working on a few things with the builder, but we think the house looks great, and fits them very well.

They'll be unpacking for about a year, if form holds. They are missing what every good Villager has, a golf cart, but I'm sure they'll get one soon enough.

July Update

Been a lot going on, haven't had time to update. Tati is going to Colombia in a few weeks to visit family, Erin is getting ready for college, and Maddie and Caroline just started school. Maddie was selected as one of her school's first Drum Majors (Hagerty High School is brand new with just a freshman class, Maddie will be a "senior" for all 4 years). Caroline is finishing Middle School at a new facility, so everyone is going someplace new this year.

Happy Fourth of July...

Time to post again, been pretty busy. The house is being repainted, on the outside, and its been about 2 weeks to finish, as the rains keep coming every day.

Linda and the triplets are in town for Brian's baseball tournament out at Disney. We all went to see his first game, which they lost to a team from Ohio, I think the score was 8-1. Nancy went yesterday to watch them, and they won their second game 11-7. There are some pictures located at the home page.

Enough with the rain..

It's been raining for at least a week now, getting on our nerves. We had some new drainage installed on both sides of the home, hopefully will help if we get another set of hurricanes this year. Plus, we went out and bought a portable generator and a window air conditioner, just in case we lose power.

Of course, now that we are fully prepared, and have dropped a couple K on these projects, no hurricanes will come. That's fine with us....

The Bird is Gone...

We answered about 10 calls about the lost bird, and even though none of the people could correctly identify the cockatiel, we turned her over to a woman who has 7 birds, and who had lost one in November. She seemed excited to get Josie, and we felt the bird would be better off with company.

Everything else is going good. Mom and Dad said they are close to buying a house in the Villages, Lisa and Mike are visiting, and Erin had a good time at her prom (pictures can be seen at OUR WEB SITE).

Look - up in the sky!!!

Nancy and I visited our rental property yesterday to do some touch up projects before the next renters arrived. Moved a lot of landscaping rock, did some caulking, and headed home.

When we got home, we started unloading the car. I was removing items from the back seat when I heard Nancy yelling out in the driveway. I came out of the car to see her waving her arms around her head, and a bird that looked like it was attacking her.

As the bird squawked and circled around her head, I saw that it was a cockatiel. I told her to just hold her arms out, and sure enough, the bird landed on her arm and walked up her shoulder. Nancy was still uncomfortable, so I walked over and the bird jumped to my shoulder. We've got in now in an old dog cage, and are posting lost and found notices around the neighborhood.

The girls want to keep the bird, and from the picture below, you can see how comfortable the bird is with people. I read the paper on the lanai this morning, with the bird satisfied to perch on my shoulder and nuzzle against my cheek and ear.

If someone doesn't come forward, we'll have a new addition.

Jeep Show & Shine

Maddie and I went to the Orlando Jeep Club's annual Show & Shine last Saturday. Last year, my Jeep was stock, and I was a little embarrassed to have it in the same lineup as some other modified Jeeps. Over the past year I've added:



2 inch suspension lift

1 inch body lift

31 inch All-Terrain tires

Front sway bar quick disconnects

High performance Air Filter

Heavy duty front bumper

Heavy duty rear bumper with receiver hitch

Heavy duty side bumpers with steps

Front radiator protection screen

Bug shield



Even with all the additions, the Jeep still seems to pale compared to some of the ones at the meet, but they are extremes. To see some examples, check out the photos on our home page. The picture below is of me and the Jeep taking a turn on the articulation ramp. You drive up the ramp until one of the remaining three tires comes up off the ground, and are measured to determine how successful your modifications are. Also tried the balance beam, but didn't get a picture because Maddie was in the Jeep with me, acting as a movable weight while we tried to balance.
